Measured, not guessed
Overview
Discs, pads, calipers, brake fluid changes and full brake system inspection.
Brakes wear gradually, which is exactly why problems creep up unnoticed. Pads get thinner, discs develop lips and corrosion, calipers start to stick and brake fluid absorbs moisture until the pedal no longer feels as firm as it should.
At M.O. Auto Repairs, brake work starts with measurement. Pad thickness, disc thickness against the manufacturer's minimum, caliper movement and fluid condition are all checked, so you know exactly what is needed and why.
Many modern cars have electronic parking brakes that must be put into service mode with diagnostic equipment before the rear pads can be changed. Forcing them can damage the caliper motor — so the job is done the correct way.

Squealing or grinding
A high squeal can be a wear indicator; grinding usually means metal-on-metal contact and needs urgent attention.

In depth
What you should know about brakes
Pads only, or pads and discs?
Discs have a minimum thickness stamped by the manufacturer. If they are close to it, badly lipped or heavily corroded, fitting new pads alone will not give proper braking and the pads will wear prematurely. Measurements decide the recommendation — not habit.

Brake fluid: the forgotten service item
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time. Water lowers its boiling point, which can cause brake fade under heavy use, and promotes internal corrosion. Most manufacturers specify a brake fluid change at fixed intervals, regardless of mileage.

Sticking calipers in a wet climate
Damp weather and road salt are hard on caliper slides and pistons. Cleaning and lubricating slides during pad changes helps calipers release properly, reducing drag, fuel use and uneven wear.

Did you know?
A car that is driven rarely can need brake work sooner than a high-mileage one — discs corrode when they sit, and calipers can seize from lack of use.
On VW, Audi, ŠKODA & SEAT
Some VAG vehicles (those with electronic parking brakes) require diagnostic software to retract the rear caliper pistons for pad replacement. Mark has ODIS to do this correctly, plus the ability to reset brake wear sensor indicators.
- Electronic parking brake opened and closed in service mode via ODIS
- Rear caliper motors and EPB faults diagnosed correctly
- Brake fluid changes performed to VW Group intervals
- ABS / ESP basic settings run where required after hydraulic work
