Overview
Exhaust repair and replacement, DPF cleaning, catalytic converter diagnostics.
An exhaust does more than carry fumes away. It controls noise, houses the catalytic converter and — on modern diesels — the diesel particulate filter, and carries the oxygen and pressure sensors the engine uses to manage fuelling and emissions.
A blowing joint or cracked flexi section may seem like a noise problem, but leaks upstream of sensors can upset fuelling, trigger warning lights and cause emissions test failures. Exhaust gas leaking near the cabin is also a safety concern.
M.O. Auto Repairs inspects the whole system on the lift, checks mounts and hangers, and uses diagnostics to look at sensor data when warning lights or emissions faults are involved.

Louder than normal
A deeper, louder note — especially on start-up or acceleration — usually means a leak or failed section.

In depth
What you should know about exhausts
DPFs and short journeys
A diesel particulate filter traps soot and burns it off during regeneration, which needs sustained higher exhaust temperatures. Lots of short trips mean regeneration rarely completes. Diagnostics can show soot loading, differential pressure and regeneration history, which helps decide whether a forced regeneration, a sensor repair or another approach is appropriate.

Sensors are part of the system
Oxygen (lambda) sensors and exhaust temperature and pressure sensors feed live information to the engine. A leak, a failing sensor or a wiring fault can all present the same warning light, which is why diagnosis comes before replacement.

Exhausts and vehicle testing
Leaks, insecure mounting, missing components and excessive emissions can all affect a vehicle test result. Checking the exhaust during pre-test preparation helps avoid a failure.

Did you know?
A small exhaust leak before an oxygen sensor can draw in outside air and make the engine think it is running lean — leading to fuelling changes and warning lights that look like an engine fault.
On VW, Audi, ŠKODA & SEAT
VAG diesel vehicles are prone to DPF issues, often caused by short journeys preventing regeneration. Mark can run forced DPF regeneration via ODIS and diagnose the underlying cause — often a faulty temperature sensor, differential pressure sensor or EGR issue.
- TDI DPF diagnostics, soot load reading and service regeneration via ODIS
- Differential pressure sensor and exhaust temperature sensor faults diagnosed
- AdBlue / SCR system faults investigated on newer VAG diesels
- Lambda and catalyst efficiency faults traced on TSI and TFSI engines
Every other make, too
Exhaust repairs, sensor faults and DPF diagnostics for all makes — petrol and diesel, cars and light vans.
